Glass does not leach toxic chemicals. By nature, glass is inert – it won’t react with the liquid you put in the bottle no matter the temperature. If it doesn’t react, it won’t leach.

Glass is hygienic. It is naturally non-porous making it easier to clean. This quality also ensures that it doesn’t retain the taste or odor of previous liquids.


Borosilicate Glass is stronger and harder than soda-lime glass and therefore won’t break as easily when dropped.

Borosilicate Glass is thermal shock resistant as opposed to soda-lime glass. This means it is able to handle abrupt and extreme temperature changes better and won’t shatter as easily.

Companies that manufacture plastic baby bottles do not have to disclose what ingredients they use to make the plastic. These ingredients can remain in the plastic in small amounts and leach into what you feed your baby. This was why BPA was removed … or rather replaced.

BPA is a chemical used to make polycarbonate plastic – what baby bottles are made of. BPA is a hormone disruptor and was never listed as an ingredient in plastic baby bottles. How many years was BPA in plastic baby bottles before enough research was done to prove it was harmful? And then how many more years passed before enough pressure was placed on companies to remove it?

BPS replaced BPA, but companies did not inform the consumer. And now there are rumblings that BPS may be even worse than BPA. How long until enough pressure builds until we see BPA & BPS-free on baby bottles? While we’re busy worrying about BPA and BPS, they’ve gone on to BP-next. Do you see the pattern?  Stick with glass. You will never really know what’s in plastic.

Baby Bottle Nipple: 100% Natural Rubber

Hevea’s nipples are made from natural rubber sourced from the Hevea Brasiliensis tree, not synthetic rubber made from oil. To create a more hygienic product, the nipples are made in one piece such that there are no openings or seams that can harbor bacteria.

Nitrosamine levels

Nitrosamines are various chemical compounds, some of which are carcinogenic, that can be found in treated drinking water, food, cosmetics, tobacco and rubber products.  Some of the most carcinogenic and therefore subject to limits are N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) and N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA). In rubber products, they are formed during the manufacturing process and may be present in the final product. In the case of rubber nipples, nitrosamines can migrate into the saliva, milk or infant formula and then can be ingested into the body.

According to Hevea, “It is correct that nitrosamines are to be found in natural rubber, but Hevea passes all the tests and regulations for pacifiers, which also test for the amount of nitroamines. If the limit is too high it can be dangerous, but we have NOT detected any in our products, and we have them tested randomly.”

Hevea complies with European Standard EN14350 which applies to “Child Use and Care Articles – Drinking Equipment” and sets the nitrosamine limit at 0.01 mg/kg and the nitrosatable levels at 0.1 mg/kg.

Hevea complies with the FDA’s Compliance Policy Guidelines Section 500.450 which addresses Volatile N-Nitrosamines in Rubber Baby Bottle Nipples that sets the limit at 10 ppb for individual nitrosamines.

10 ppb is the same as 0.01 mg/kg.

Latex Sensitivity

Natural rubber is made from white sap, also known as latex, that is tapped from the rubber tree. In the tree’s latex, there are naturally occurring proteins that end up in the final natural rubber product that cause some people allergies, i.e. a latex allergy.

Hevea notes:

The processing of the latex to produce Hevea’s raw rubber products leaches out much of the latex protein. As a result, latex content in Hevea’s products is extremely low.

Even though no allergic reactions to any Hevea products have been received to date, users should note the potential for an allergic response to latex. If there is a known family history of latex allergy, or if you notice any symptoms that cause concern, or if your child has had a previous reaction to any other rubber products, stop use immediately and visit your medical practitioner. Addressing early symptoms may prevent more serious effects.

Allergy reactions to latex vary in severity with individuals, yet is usually not dangerous. Symptoms can include:

  • Sneezing or runny nose
  • Coughing
  • Rash or hives
  • Chest tightness
  • Shortness of breath

Always concerned with your child’s safety and creating products of the utmost quality, Hevea is supporting its suppliers in trying to find a way to improve rubber processing to reduce the potential for latex allergic reactions.



  • Prior to first use, wash bottle in the dishwasher or place in boiling water for 5 minutes.


  • Always use with adult supervision and never let babies hold the bottle by themselves.
  • Before each use, always check the bottle and all parts. Replace the bottle if you find it broken or cracked.
  • Bottle can be heated up in a bottle warmer.
  • Use water to cool the bottle down.
  • Bottle is intended to be used for milk and water.
  • Irregular lines may appear on the surface of the bottle. This is normal and not a design defect.
  • Though made of borosilicate glass, the bottle is not unbreakable. It can break if dropped or hit wrong.
  • Though made of borosilicate glass and therefore thermal shock resistant, it is not thermal shock proof. Still use caution when exposing the bottle to abrupt temperature changes.



  • The rubber nipples are NOT microwave or dishwasher safe.
  • Prior to first use, sterilize by placing in boiling water for 5 minutes.
  • When sterilizing nipples in boiling water make sure that there is enough water in the pot to avoid damage to the nipple. Do not boil in pressure cooker.
  • For babies aged 0-3 months, sterilize rubber nipple prior to each use.
  • For babies aged 3+, clean before each use with warm water.
  • After cleaning make sure no water is left inside.


  • Prior to each use, check nipple to ensure it is not blocked up and pull it in all directions.
  • The anti-colic valve works by creating pressure equalization in the bottle so that baby does not swallow unwanted air during feeding. Tighten the ring securely, but do not squeeze flange or valve too much.
  • Replace nipples every 1-2 months or sooner if they show signs of wear and tear. Teething babies can tear the nipples.
  • Do not leave nipples in direct sunlight, near a heat source or sitting in a disinfectant for longer than recommended as it may weaken the nipple.
  • Never use nipples as a soother.
  • Screw thread and cap is dishwasher safe if placed on the top rack.


  • Do not heat food up in a microwave which can cause the food to heat up unevenly.
  • Always stir heated food to ensure even heat distribution.
  • Always check the food temperature before feeding your baby.
  • Keep all components not in use out of the reach of children (nipple or sealing disc might be swallowed and are choking hazards.
  • Exercise caution when shaking the contents of the bottle as pressure inside the bottom may build up and cause leakage or spraying because of the high temperature of the liquid inside.

Natural Rubber

Hevea’s rubber product line is made of 100% natural rubber, which is biodegradable and a sustainable resource. Natural rubber has the ability to be broken down physically and/or chemically by microorganisms – usually requiring exposure to sunlight, air and moisture. Using natural rubber, rather than synthetic rubber made from oil, acts against climate change by increasing the number of trees and cutting back on the use of fossil fuels.

Malaysian Rubber Board

Hevea uses natural rubber tapped in Malaysia. They pay a percentage of the raw rubber costs to the Malaysian Rubber board, which in return helps to create a sustainable industry by replanting rubber trees and investing in research and development towards sustaining the viability of the rubber industry in Malaysia. FSC-Certified Packaging

All of Hevea’s packaging is FSC certified. The FSC trademark is a guarantee that the paper (or timber) comes from a responsibly-managed forest which helps prevent deforestation and degradation. This is important for millions of people who depend on forests for their livelihoods, but of course also for the overall environment.


Hevea re-uses as much as possible. This is not only good for the environment – it also saves costs. For example, Hevea reuses all the packaging they receive such as leftovers from their packaging for business cards, post cards, memory games and in-store material. They are so dedicated to re-using that so far, they have not had to buy any additional envelopes.

Organic Cotton

Hevea’s accessories are made from organic cotton that were manufactured according to the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS). The cotton is grown without the use of chemical herbicides, pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and no harmful chemicals or solvents are used in the processing.


Hevea regards recycling as an essential component of their operation as it is a key environmental issue. They recycle their office waste as much as possible including bottles and kitchen waste. They also encourage and support their manufacturers’ recycling efforts on their production lines by requesting ISO certification.

CO2 Neutral
