I don’t think that I am alone in the feeling random bouts of sadness and disbelief around what is happening in our world right now.  This is suppose to be a world where we can leave our children a future to look forward to.  I mean, isn’t that the most important thing to parents, really?

Or is it?  Would it do us all a world of good (that means our children too) to make THIS moment the MOST important?  When I catch myself in the whirlwind of it all, I remind myself of this.

I have been so full of appreciation for the simplest little moments with my daughter these days.  It is like the magic of her giggle and loving embrace has miraculously been magnified for me each day.  I take the time to pause in the moments and drink them in, and I feel joyful.  This is the attitude my daughter deserves, this is the mom and wife I want to be.  Loving, supportive, grateful and present.

Staying Healthy: Information on Radiation (March 2011) by Homeopath Mary Grace

I hope that this newsletter finds you well. In Japan, so many people are in gratitude simply for their lives. Our assumed state of food, clothing and shelter are missing for so many in Japan and throughout the world. Mere survival is the state of many Japanese people now, but this survival includes helping each other. The tragedy of this earthquake, tsunami and the nuclear meltdown is epic and at the forefront for all.  I am in awe, reading and listening to their stories of gratitude. I am grateful for my own life too, for my health and the grace that I live with on a daily basis.

As is all too usual in our American culture, we look for some magic to “fix the problem”.  Because this is the mindset of our culture, our government CDC offers one magic solution to our current threat of radiation. In this case the magic pill is Potassium Iodide (KI).

Before you take Potassium Iodide, I highly suggest that you take some time and research the subject and substance and even talk to an expert.  I feel it’s important to know this solution was originally recommended for those at radiation sites. Using KI can have grave impacts, especially for those with certain diseases.

Radioactivity does not only affect the thyroid, but every single organ and gland in our bodies.  Being lulled by the “protection of potassium iodide” for the thyroid can be hypnotic.

For me, the benefit of this potential radiation threat is to look at how we live our daily lives and to use this occasion to make some changes.

Unfortunately, we are not being encouraged to look at this potential situation in any holistic way.  The solution is making some changes now in how we live our lives on a daily basis. Some of the following suggestions are things that we might want to consider using and doing regularly with or without the threat of radiation poisoning, in order to stay healthy.

Given where and how we currently live, we are exposed to radiation daily from cell phones, cell phone towers, computers, televisions, x-rays, CT scans and when we are on airplanes, etc.

Most importantly, I can say there is a magic pill.  The magic pill is  love – love for ourselves, our families, all humans and living beings, plants and animals and our mother earth alike. Let’s support each other and our planet in this time of turmoil.

I have put together a few suggestions about health and radiation gathered from many different sources. Some of the information is purely for your education and some is about actions that can be taken at this time and later. Foods That Help Detox Radiation

FOOD

Take tablets, capsules or flakes of  kelp, dulse, and seaweed and eat a lot of  leafy greens. These natural sources of food have naturally occurring iodine and potassium and are balanced with other vitamins and minerals.  Therefore, they are protective when there is radiation. Test yourself, start slow and take care not to overuse any of these.

Spirulina and chlorella were used heavily by the Russians after the Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster.  It was very helpful in mitigating  the effects of that disaster.

The Japanese love their miso soup, said to help some of their citizens survive the fallout after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Tan Koon Peng from Singapore writes that miso is effective for detoxifying your body of radiation. During World War II, two hospitals that were located side by side were hit with atomic radiation.  In one hospital, people consumed miso and all of them survived while many people in the other hospital, who did not take miso, died. Miso is rich in vitamin B, therefore it is suitable for vegetarians who have a shortage of vitamin B. For best results do not cook miso.

Organic, uncontaminated brown rice, miso and tamari soy soup, wakame, kombu and other seaweed, Hokkaido pumpkin, and sea salt are traditionally held to be protective against radiation, as the clinical results of Atsuichiro Akizuki, M.D in a hospital outside of Nagasaki showed. Modifilan, is said to be a good seaweed chelator (containing anti-cancer properties, too).

High potassium foods are important too, as potassium competitively inhibits cesium uptake. Foods high in potassium include avocados, sea vegetables, and leafy green vegetables, and are more effective than taking a potassium supplement. Foods high in calcium and potassium are very helpful in replacing cesium and helping cesium 137 to be eliminated from the body.

Vitamin D is depleted by Strontium 90 so extra Vitamin D3 is a very good idea. Lots of Vitamin D3, at least 5,000 IU per day, is generally a good idea for immune system health.

Although there is no proof, it has been suggested that the herb Ginko Biloba would help to protect against radiation. Also eating Japanese persimmon may prove to be protective. This thought occured because Ginko  and the Japanese persimmon are plants that have survived and continued to grow after being irradiated.

The flavonoids contained in citrus extract show protective activity and reduce the clastogenic effect of radiation on mice bone marrow. Therefore fruits and vegetables containing flavonoids may be useful for their protective effects under such stressful conditions as irradiation.

Additionally, foods and supplements high in antioxidants will help the body cope with higher toxic levels, as radioactive materials cause antioxidant depletion and ill health.

INTERNAL DETOX

SODIUM BICARBONATE (Baking Soda)

The oral administration of sodium bicarbonate diminishes the severity of the changes produced by uranium in the kidneys.

Dr. Mark Sircus of the International Medical Veritas Association says, “The kidneys are usually the first organs to show chemical damage upon uranium exposure. Old military manuals suggest doses or infusions of sodium bicarbonate to help alkalinize the urine if this happens. This makes the uranyl ion less kidney-toxic and promotes excretion of the nontoxic uranium-carbonate complex. The oral administration of sodium bicarbonate diminishes the severity of the changes produced by uranium in the kidneys. So useful and strong is sodium bicarbonate that at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, researcher Don York has used baking soda to clean soil contaminated with uranium.” Sodium bicarbonate binds with uranium, separating it from the dirt; so far, York has removed as much as 92 percent of the uranium from contaminated soil samples. I started writing about baking soda after discovering that the United States Army recommends the use of bicarbonate to protect the kidneys from radiation damage.

Sodium bicarbonate can safely remove paint, grease, oil and smoke residue, decreasing workers’ exposure to harsh chemicals and eliminating much of the hazardous waste associated with other cleaners. “Sodium bicarbonate is able to clean in areas where other substances pose fire hazards, because baking soda is a natural fire extinguisher,” says Kenneth Colbert, a general manager for Arm & Hammer. This is the reason it’s used by oncology centers to control chemo agent spills and it’s actually used intravenously to protect patients from the hazardous toxicity of chemotherapy.”

Uranium is one of the only metals that get significant bonding from carbonate.  Just flushing a lot of bicarbonate through the system, along with whatever kidney support you are going to use, will be very helpful,” writes Dr. Chris Shade. There is no better therapy for radiation sickness then intense sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and magnesium bath salts with the appropriate clay added in.  Even sodium thiosulfate can be added to these baths and that instantly neutralizes any chlorine in the bath water while simultaneously providing sulfur for the vital sulfur pathways.
